Animal cells are remarkable, tiny building blocks. Consider a 1mm grain of sand. You could fit over 200 red blood cells in that grain! There are hundreds of specialized types of animal cells from neurons to bone cells. Within all of these cells are organelles – circular, squiggly, irregular and rod-shaped structures. Animal cells have many features in common with plant cells, such as a nucleus, cytoplasm, reticula, ribosomes and mitochondria. Think about this, cells and their organelles allow animals to grow, eat, reproduce and even think!
